This is a thread about modern Greek names - (if there is such a thing). I am curious on what many of them mean as my basic Greek can just about buy a frappe or order a pizza over the phone to an albanian delivery guy.

I am firsty curious about regionality endings, ie, which are from Crete, like akis ect.. And secondly the meaning of common names such as Karagounis ect.

Finally also curious about my Greek second name, Megas, and how common it is.

Thanks.

Karagounis derived from two words

Kara----kara(turkish)=dark
Gounis----Gon(albanian)=is a bird

or

Kara----kara(turkish)=dark
Ganis----Gani(turkish)=rich
