During the past few years there seems to be a concentrated shift in the nationalist historiography promoted by our nationalist friends from FYROM and their diaspora compatriots. Their crackpot theories get more far fetched every year.
We are seeing more and more 'information' being propagated with regards to a "proto-slavic" theory which suggests that the slavic migrations never happened and postulates that the modern "Macedonian" language is derived from ancient Macedonian. This position is not supported by any serious historian. As a matter of fact the official position of the state sponsored "Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts" which operates out of Skopje suggests otherwise. The consensus amongst the nationalists from FYROM is that the "Slavic Migration Theory" is an unsupported theory being promoted by biased western academia. Don't they know that their own state sponsored academics were writing of slavic migrations? These excerpts are taken from "Macedonia and its relations with Greece" authored by the "Macedonian Acadamy of Sciences and Arts" and published in Skopje in 1993. The book is biased and flawed with all sorts of misinterpretations but my point is that modern FYROM nationalists can't even find support in the works of their state sponsored academics for their far fetched crackpot theories. ![]() The following are the contributors to this compilation. So much for the theory that only biased western academia writes, and has written, about Slavic Migrations! ![]() According to the "Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts" did the Slavs migrate to the region? Have a look: ![]() In addition I would like to bring another important point to the readers' attention. A common theory espoused by our nationalist friends from FYROM is that the geographic region of Macedonia has existed throughout the centuries more or less defined by boundaries that incorporate what they label as the "Vardar","Pirin" and "Aegean" regions. This is not the case! This nationalist definition was largely accepted in the 19th century as the result of Bulgarian foreign policy [**1] Prior to that there were seemingly countless depictions of Macedonia, a large number of which never included most of the geography that FYROM is located on today! [we have seen many such maps posted in these forums] Even the state sponsored "Macedonian Acadamy of Sciences and Arts" tells us that the definition of Macedonia (including "Vardar","Pirin","Aegean")being promoted by FYROM nationalists was born in the 19th century! ![]() As you can see the latest crackpot theories of the nationalists have no merritt, are unsupported by the historical literature, and have not been traditionally espoused by their own state sponsored scholars! Note from above: **1 T.R.Georgevich, in his 1918work ‘Macedonia’ not only blames the employment of the wide geographical definition (of Macedonia) on the Bulgarians and those who out of political considerations or ignorance 'bought' the Bulgarian 'definition'; but also produces a whole account of maps & old records studied by "Dr.J.Cvijic, Professor of Geography of the University of Belgrade," with the 'anticipated result': "Consequently, the territorial unit of Macedonia would include the regions around Ochrida, Bitolj, Voden, Salonica, Dorjan, Strumica, Serres, and Kavala. All else to the north of this is not Macedonia." |
