They are trying to interpret history without the inclusion of Greek sources whatsoever, and then compare it to the Greek narrative.

O.K., it looks like Dareius didn't flee the battle and that his soldiers abandoned him because they panicked. I would attribute this panic more on the sands that destroyed all sense of visibility in the battlefield along with the fear of the Persian rookies, rather than some silly portents...
