Well the americans just immitating some earlier roman and european tendancies. Thus till today you find roman patrician families like Massimo, Ottoboni, Borgese Colonna etc, who claim direct descent from the most ancient and most aristocratic clans of ancient Rome. Equally german high nobility and european royalty claim descent from the patrician roman families and as such a direct descent from the Troyan heros. As the americans leadership cannot claim royal european origin and thus roman and troyan ancestry, they look to the other half of the aegean and see Greece. The only greek kingdoms were Macedon, Epirus, Sparta and the greek dynasties of hellenistic kingdoms. So simply G Bush following the example of the european royal past have chosen Philip.

PS And do not forget that the Merovingians kings of France due to the fact that they were reigning in an era during which nations were half christian and half pagan, and most of rulers kings and emperors were claiming divine descent, they have decided to claim Jesus Christ as their ancestor creating the story of Mary Magdalene and the Holy Grail. So do not feel surprised by Bush
