From this quote we learn the following: a) Macedonians understood perfectly the "rustic" Boeotian dialect of this old Boeotian soldier. A supposedly foreigner, non-native Greek speaker, would be able to understand Koine, perhaps Attic but would not comprehend local troublesome Greek dialects like Boeotian Aeolic which carry lots of archaisms and peculiarities. b) The Boeotian soldier was aware that his archaic Boeotian dialect would be understood by Macedonians as they spoke a kindred dialect otherwise he would speak obviously in Koine, which he didnt. This quote proves that the so-called ancient Macedonian language was a Greek dialect, close to Aeolic which Boeotian dialect belongs. In fact there is another passage from Herodotus proving the latter. Quote:
The fact that Alexander I sent Macedonians to safeguard the Boeotian cities shows again that Macedonians spoke Greek, closely related to the Boeotian variety. |

So Alexander gave an order that the inscription which were in a foreign language were to be explained in Greek, so that they would be comprehensible to his troops. Nothing more to add. It speaks volumes all by itself. |

| Always use firstly the search feature to locate whether there are any related topics to the issue you wanna raise. For example there is already an ongoing discussion about Rosetta Stone.. |

| Thanks Ptolemy. I didn't think to use the Search button. My post was not just about the Rosetta stone though. It also gives other information concerning FYROMian claims. How do I start a thread? I can't find the relevant button. Effie |

| Once you open up lets say "free apeech Macedonia forum". on the top left you'll find "New Thread", you press it and follow the same process you do when making a simple post, the only difference is that you add a title.

| HISTORICAL FRAUD ONLINE !!!!!!! I was searching Livy's History of Rome Online and I found an English translation in the site http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/etcbin...&division=div2 The interesting part is that in (31.29.2) they "forgot" the part ...MEN OF THE SAME LANGUAGE... ..Check it out !!!!!! In (31.29.2) It says "Aetolians, Acarnanians, Macedonians are united and disunited by slight and purely temporary causes" Meanwhile the text in Latin on the site http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/livy/liv.31.shtml#31says : "Aetolos Acarnanas Macedonas, eiusdem linguae homines, leues ad tempus ortae causae diiungunt coniunguntque" Why someone "forgets" to write the most interesting part ....eiusdem linguae homines ... = ...MEN OF THE SAME LANGUAGE !!! Are we sure that there is not a FYROMer behind this "innocent neglect" ???????? ?????? I'm sorry my dear B.W.B. (Brain Washed Bulgarians) "Makedonski" , but scripta manent, verba volant
