and now that I have encompassed in my survey all the barbarian tribes in Europe as far as the Tanaïs and also a small part of Greece, Macedonia,

then, come the following peoples of the Greeks: the Acarnanians, the Aetolians, and the Ozolian Locrians; and, next, the Phocians and Boeotians; and opposite these, across the arm of the sea, is the Peloponnesus, which with these encloses the Corinthian Gulf, and not only shapes the gulf but also is shaped by it; and after Macedonia, the Thessalians (extending as far as the Malians) and the countries of the rest of the peoples outside the Isthmus, 3 as also of those inside.

For one more time Strabo places Macedonia inside Greece.

But some go so far as to call the whole of the country Macedonia, as far as Corcyra, at the same time stating as their reason that in tonsure, LANGUAGE, short cloak, and other things of the kind, the usages of the inhabitants are similar

Before the Greek name of Macedonia the region called Emathia
First residents were the Illyrians, Epeirots,Paeones, Bottiaeis, Edones and Thracians.
In all these tribes established themselves as masters later the Greek tribes of Argeands and Chalcidians.
This is also the reason that many ancient writers such as Herodotus mention Greek colonies some city states and other as Greek city states.

Emathia is a greek name it means "sandy" (ἠμαθόεν) watch Odessey (ἐς Πύλον ἠμαθόεντα ..at the sandy Pylos).Marsias Makedon Pellaios , an admiral of Alexander the Great in his Makedonikà said that Macedon had 3 sons :
Pieros , Amathos and Brousis .It was Theagenis in roman times that inverted the relationship between Makedon and Amathis/Emathis. so we have a greek name in the cradle of Macedonia that Homer knows !!! watch Iliad Διός Απάτη
when Hera from Olympus through Pieria ,Emathia ,Thrace reaches Zeus near Troy to seduce him. This means that there was a Greek-speaking population that named Emathia (and Pieria and maybe Mygdonia) before the Macedonians arrive or were the Macedonians that named it...SO EMATHIA IS NOT A PREGREEK NAME BUT IS A PREMACEDONIAN GREEK NAME OR EARLY MACEDONIAN NAME ,probably from Greek populations that were driven away by Thracians , Paeonians , Frygians , Illyrians , Mysians , Teucrians of Troy ecc...
